Combat Jujitsu Instructor

Mark Roberts, Instructor

Sensei Mark Roberts started his Martial Arts career at the age of 8. Starting with Karate and various other popular arts at the time. At 17 after much research he joined a Kick-boxing school and studied this art full time for 5 years. Training with many past and present world champions gave him an insight into a new concept of training. He appreciated the fluidity of this art. No fixed positions, but relying on instinct, timing and practice. After passing his black belt in 1997 he opened his first Kick-boxing school.

The success of this school was huge and with the help of his best friend and life long training partner, Sensei Duncan, ran schools for many years. This school still runs and is producing a high level of children performing and grading in this art. In 1998, Sensei Mark met Sensei Barry Harte a Jujitsu black belt who’s expertise he hadn’t seen before. He realised within an hour that Jujitsu was the only way forward. It was aggressive; street-effective. It had it all. After 8 years of hard work and dedication, Sensei Mark passed his 1st Dan black belt. An elite level within that club.

In 2007 he successfully passed his 2nd Dan. In this year he opened his first Jujitsu school which has grown into a huge success putting his individual slant on it and pushing the boundaries of standards and training concepts. Training in Wing Chun and Muay Thai for several years has helped to expand his knowledge and personal development.

In 2008, Sensei Mark passed interviews to partake in CKM – Commando Krav Maga. A special forces style Martial Art taught by the founder in Israel. Until this point CKM had not been open to civilians. This was a week of intensive training and endless hours of punishing exercise and technical repetition. Five exams had to be passed. 80% had to be reached in order to pass. 20 students participated, nearly all of them soldiers, Sensei Mark attained the top score of 94% - a very proud moment. This success in CKM increased his desire to produce the best students and have a club with the highest reputation. In 2009, the club was renamed COMBAT JUJITSU and grew through its standards and high quality students. Sensei Mark was so driven to find a level of excellence within himself that he would train every morning and every night; often getting up in the night just to practice. He wanted to be the best he could be and was fortunate enough to have great teachers with high standards. His desire remains the same. The goal hasn’t changed. “I’ll continue to strive for personal improvement and to help each student achieve their goal”. Today Sensei Mark trains in BJJ.

In 2010 Sensei Mark successfully passed his 3rd Dan in Ju Jitsu, something he trained hard for and is reflected in his techniques and teaching ability.
