Combat Jujitsu Stress Test

The stress test is a new concept within Combat Jujitsu.  I was first introduced to this whilst training for my instructor’s certificate in Commando Krav Maga- CKM.  It is used by the Israeli Special Forces and part of their training involves a stress test.

The student is surrounded by the rest of the class where for a prolonged period of time, often 8-10mins, they deal with unnamed and random attacks…….it is relentless. You are being shouted at, pushed around and attacked.  It teaches you to survive; to rely on instinctiveness.  The techniques you have rehearsed time and time again are called in to practice without a moment to think. Over and over again; no breaks.  Punches, grabs and bear hugs,  You can’t give in. You must find that inner strength.  The will to keep going and the will to win.

Without this test the techniques taught in the syllabus can be too choreographed and give you misplaced confidence.  An attacker isn’t going to tell you what they’re going to do; you have to learn to read the attack or react to their assault.

The stress test feels real as it’s random and continuous.  Non stop pressure and just down to what you know and who you are inside.  Completing this proves your techniques work under pressure, through exhaustion and sheer determination, giving you a deserved confidence and a respect from everyone.

A boxer fights for 3mins against one opponent.  The student fights up to 20 for 8-10mins.  Enough said.
